A difficult few days

Well, I missed posting last week. I meant to get it done a few days late and unfortunately on Wednesday morning, we received some saddening news at Camp. One of our summer staff, Dustin Morris, had passed away. Dustin was 24, and he had worked for us in the summers of 2006-2009. It's always hard to lose people and this is definitely true of Dustin. Dustin was a truly talented musician who's face lit up when he shared this love with the campers. He was creative, goofy, lovable, musical and an all around good guy. It breaks my heart to know that he is not with us any more but he is in my heart and the heart of all those he touched. The most important thing to remember is that he. made. a. difference. It was a blessing and a privilege to have been able to work with Dustin. May his family find peace and solace in the knowledge that he was a great role model while he was here. His family has also generously specified Wisconsin Lions Foundation (our administrative organization) as a place to donate memorials in his name. We plan to use those funds to purchase something specifically for the music program. Thank you to his family for their generosity in this difficult time. Now, lets get to Camp. As of today, we have 1, 127 campers registered for summer camp. Deadlines for registration are approaching - let's get more deaf or hard of hearing campers and more blind or visually impaired campers signed up. Both populations are declining slightly and we need all the recruiting help we can get! Summer camp preparations are well underway - we have most of our summer staff. We only need two male counselors and a summer secretary. We've been very fortunate to find some really talented staff - along with some strong returning staff. It will be a wonderful group of young adults making a difference for our 55th summer. Despite the crazy weather (and the predicted 4-6 inches of snow TOMORROW) we are going full steam ahead on our spring workday. It is next Saturday, April 30. Please join us if you are able to to help us get the property ready! The ice is at least off of the lake so we can get boats and docks in the water! Have a great week everyone and a very blessed Easter holiday!
