Wow...time flies when you are having fun? A very busy few weeks - and I am determined to get back into this blog. Let's start with the obvious. Camp is rolling!
1. We had nine days of staff training June 1 - 9. We have a great crew of staff this summer who have worked very hard to learn everything they need to be successful. I am very proud of our interview process and the excellent people who we have on board.
2. That moved us into our first week of campers - our Blind or visually impaired adult week. I love our adults. Many have been coming for years....Karl Blank specifically has been here for 50 years....what a amazing story he is! The adults were so appreciative of their time at camp and I consider myself lucky to have known most of them for years. I think people overlook the fact that you can be 71 and rolling in the mudpit. Why not?
3. Our first week of youth campers just wrapped up. Those poor kiddos! They had to go through four days of rain...cold, dreary rain. But I give credit to the staff for hanging in there with the many changes to the week's schedule and working hard to ensure the camper's success. And of course it stopped raining in time for the dance. Thank goodness.....
4. Our second week of youth arrived today. Things were smoother and staff seem much more comfortable which is great. Thank you to the Lions members who helped provide some transportation this week. We really appreciate your help in making it happen so these campers can get to camp!
So that's the scoop - greatly abbreviated but a catch up of sorts. I will continue to try to post two or three times a week with notes from camp. I leave you with an image I appreciate - 134 campers running around the trading post circle - playing catch, talking with friends, laughing and enjoying camp. That's what it's all about. Thank you for making it happen!
